Job description

Maevious, a live online school for US families, is looking for three independent, US-licensed teachers: one for Math, one for English Language Arts and one for Science. You teach live 45-minute lessons to small groups of students in grades 5 to 10 (5th and 6th grade are taught together). Lessons run on a set weekly timetable between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The engagement runs from Monday, January 4, 2027 to Wednesday, June 16, 2027. The contract renews for the next academic year upon mutual agreement. You decide the content, sequence and teaching method of your lessons. All we ask is that, by the end of the school year, each course covers the standards for its grade: Common Core for Math and ELA, NGSS for Science.

Responsibilities

Math: 30 lessons a week (22.5 hours), Monday to Friday, 5–7 lessons a day, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET. Courses: Math 6 (grades 5–6), Math 7, Math 8, Algebra I (grade 9) and Geometry (grade 10).

English Language Arts: 30 sessions a week (22.5 hours), Monday to Friday, 5–7 sessions a day, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET. 25 of the 30 sessions are English lessons: English Language Arts for grades 5–8, plus English 9 and English 10. The other 5 are Social Club, held on Fridays, one session for each grade group. Social Club is a guided discussion session where students connect and share ideas, not a formal English lesson.

Science: 15 lessons a week (11.25 hours), Monday to Thursday only, 3–5 lessons a day, between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET. Fridays are free. Courses: Life Science, Physical Science and Earth & Space Science (grades 5–8), Biology (grade 9) and Chemistry (grade 10).

Required

• A current teaching license or certificate from any US state, covering the subject you will teach.
• A fingerprint-based background check before you start. You can provide your own FBI Identity History Summary, or we will arrange a check with your written consent. We also search the national sex offender registry.
• A commitment until the end of the school year (June 16, 2027) as a minimum, with the option to continue into 2027–28 if we both agree.
• Teacher residence: you must live in a US state other than California, Massachusetts or New Jersey. This condition is about where you, the teacher, live. Our students come from across the US, including those three states.

Desired

• Experience teaching in a US middle or high school, or teaching online.
• Familiarity with Common Core (Math and ELA) or NGSS (Science).

• Holidays follow our published school calendar: MLK Day, a mid-winter break (February 15–19), spring break (March 29 – April 2) and Memorial Day.

Remuneration

This is an independent-contractor engagement, not employment. There are no employee benefits; you invoice Maevious weekly and handle your own taxes.

Math: $16.67 per lesson. A full 30-lesson week is $500, and a full teaching month is $2,170 (4.34 weeks × $500).

English Language Arts: $16.67 per session. A full 30-session week is $500, and a full teaching month is $2,170.

Science: $16.67 per lesson. A full 15-lesson week is $250, and a full teaching month is $1,085 (4.34 weeks × $250).
